Opt-Out

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall07/15/2026 - 10/02/2026
Spring/Summer (New Students)12/15/2026 - 02/02/2027

 

To qualify for a waiver, your alternate insurance plan must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Provide routine, non-emergency medical care as well as emergency medical and mental health services within the New York metropolitan area.
  • Be compliant with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
    Be administered by a U.S.-based claims administrator with a U.S. telephone number and mailing address for claims submission.
  • Be issued in the United States.
  • Demonstrate active coverage from the student's arrival on campus through the end of the academic year (or collegiate sport program, if applicable), as verified by a current, unexpired insurance card.

 

Please note: any waivers that do not meet the above requirements will be denied.
